Governance

Sadleir House is owned and governed by the P. R. Community & Student Association (PRCSA). The PRCSA is run by a Board of Directors (the majority of whom are Trent Unviersity students). Elections occur in the spring at the Annual General Meeting and are usually for terms of two years.

The PRCSA Board of Directors:

• Catherine Dickinson (Term: February 2004 - 2012)
  Catherine Dickinson was a member of Peter Robinson College in Trent University’s class of 1998. In her tenure at Trent University, Catherine has worked tirelessly advocating, in particular, on issues of university governance, student space and accessible, quality, publicly funded post-secondary education. She has held elected positions on the boards of the Trent Central Student Association, Peter Robinson College Cabinet, the Julian Blackburn College Students’ Association, the Trent University Senate and the Trent University Board of Governors. Catherine was employed as the Executive Coordinator of the Trent Central Student Association from 2002-2008. She is presently working in the labour movement. Catherine is a founding member of the PRCSA and has been on the Board since its inception.

• Meaghan Kelly (Term: March 2010 - 2012)
  
  
• John K Muir (Term: February 2004 - 2011)
  In 1978, Mr. Muir was one of the founding directors when Trent Radio applied for incorporation and was instrumental in establishing Trent Radio’s first studio in 1979, moving the organisation to its present location on George Street in 1985. John has worked as the general manager of a music festival with R. Murray Schafer; as a free-lance producer and concert engineer; and the administrator for Artspace, which was then, an artist run centre for visual art, performance and communication. Returning to Trent Radio in August 1994 as General Manager, and later being instrumental in establishing Sadleir House, John continues to be concerned with trying to create an environment conducive to the production of exceptional community through the confluence and ethos of “social advocacy” and the “cultural avant-garde”.

• Ayad Sbeyti(Term: February 2009 - 2011)
  Ayad Sbeyti is a Trent student from Champlain College. In addition to his involvement with Sadleir House, Ayad is involved with the Trent University Emergency First Response Team and has served as the International Students Commissioner for the Trent Central Student Association. In the past, Ayad has also been involved with OPIRG Peterborough and the Trent Muslin Student Association.

• James Smith (Term: February 2009 - 2012)
  James Smith is a 4th year Political Studies major at Trent. In his first year James was drawn into student politics and organizing almost immediately when he learned that his college, Traill, was slated for closure. Since then he has been involved with a myriad of student groups and initiatives seeking to preserve the college system and increasing student influence on the direction of the university. Most notably he has been President of Traill Cabinet, a member of the Non-Academic Misconduct Policy Task Force, and founder of Arthur Newspaper’s Radio Program ‘Out of Print’. Currently James is the Chair of a new organization seeking to establish a student co-operative residence in downtown Peterborough, a group that is inspired by the success of Sadleir House.

• Helen Wallis (Term: February 2009 - 2011)
  Helen Wallis registered at Trent University in 1991, after beginning her education at Carleton University in Ottawa a full forty years previously. She earned her Trent degree while serving as the Sr. Don of Lady Eaton College, the JBC Senator, on the Presidential Search, and filling the part-time student seat on a multitude of university committees. Helen has wide experience in business management, and has since 1994 held the position of Executive Director of the Julian Blackburn College Student’s Association (JBCSA). The summer of 2004 found her devoting many hours to helping with the renovating and refurbishing of Sadleir House during the first weeks and months of student ownership; her determination to see that the original elegance was combined with the necessary efficiencies resulted in many of the facility’s most admired features, including her purchase and hanging of the family picture above the hearth, effectively making the house a home. To serve on the Board of Directors offered a most appropriate opportunity for Helen and Sadleir House to become reacquainted.
